Intended for ages 6-11, the poems invite readers to think metaphorically. From the “Mosquito of Worry” and “Snail of Anticipation” to the “Hummingbird of Happiness” and “Lanternfish of Love,” the poems vary in tone from light to dark, from quirky and humorous to serious. The animals range from mammals to insects to birds; the emotions span the spectrum of human experience.
