SPRING SPOTLIGHT
Spring is beginning to bloom here in New England, and it’s the perfect time to explore the wonders of gardening with children.
Gardening connects kids to the natural world and also nurtures a wide range of skills — from science and math to language and creativity. Whether it’s a pot on the back porch, a small patch in the yard, or a community garden plot, there are endless opportunities to dig in and grow something special together.
An honor to be mentioned and to be able to share a bit about our corner of the world in West Concord.
Dig Dig Dig
to the tune of “Row, Row, Row your Boat”
Dig, dig, dig, the soil
bend down low and “dig” at the soil with imaginary tools
Plant seeds in a row
pinch fingers together and “plant” into the ground
A little sun,
rise up tall with wide arms like sunbeams
A little rain,
wiggle fingers up and down
Will help our flowers
squat down low
Grow
slowly stand up to sprout into a tall stem and flower
A GARDENING "RECIPE"
We love this hands-on activity that teaches children the tangible results of interacting with nature. Mix and roll the seed balls with your little gardener, plant anywhere you'd like to see some flowers, and nurture them as they bloom! Happy digging!
